Downtown Walnut Creek Ace Hardware has been a locally owned and locally loved business since 2008. Our opening was beyond well-received, with many news outlets referring to us as something the community needed. We have always kept customer service at the forefront, never taking those initial reactions for granted.
Our loyal customers have allowed us to grow over the years. Departments have expanded, and we currently carry over 60,000 products. While the interior of our store is already quite large, we managed to branch out with an abundant nursery behind the main building and a separate building dedicated to outdoor living. Numerous services have been added based on our customers’ needs because we know that help shouldn’t always end at checkout.
Of course, we can’t leave out what makes us so well known. Thanks to our ever-expanding, extensive “G-scale” model train that runs around the store on an elevated track, our store has become a must-see location. It features several handcrafted model replicas of famous bridges in the area, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the New Bay Bridge, the Tower Bridge in Sacramento, and a rail trestle bridge in Benicia. To top it off, we have a steam whistle to pull. We were featured in two National Garden Railway Conventions and won Ace’s “Coolest Hardware Store” in 2020!
Over fifteen years have passed since we opened, a massive milestone for a small business. We will always thank our community for supporting the Ace with the train.

Since 2013, “Pinnacle Performance Retailer” award has recognized stores excelling in customer service, convenience, and maintaining 93% inventory. This award goes to a small percentage of Ace stores yearly, with an even smaller percentage becoming repeat winners. Downtown Walnut Creek Ace Hardware has won seven times!
